Nyoman was interested in painting from an early age but did not take art seriously until he entered high school. While viewing exhibitions of styles different from classic Balinese style Nyoman was drawn into painting. From these influences and his education he is able to bridge the gap between classic Balinese painting and the 20th century surrealist movement.
